Urgent Help Needed

Michele Bresnick, age 38, grew up at Congregation Olam Tikvah and is the daughter of long-time congregant Terry Bresnick. She was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, has undergone chemotherapy, and is need of a bone marrow transplant. To help, South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia, where her Mom, Faye Cascio, taught and of which Michele is an alumnus, is going to host a bone marrow drive. It will be held on Friday, December 12 from 2-7 pm in the cafeteria.

In order to join the Bone Marrow Registry, you only need to go through a brief medical screening process and then swab the inside of your cheek with 4 q-tips- THAT'S IT. No needles, no blood. Most people who are unable to donate blood (for whatever reason) ARE able to get into this registry. In many places, you can get this done at a local blood bank.

If you are unable to come to the bone marrow drive on December 12 and still want to help, you can still support the National Bone Marrow Program. The fee is $25, but NO ONE who comes to the drive at South Lakes will be required to pay a fee. You may make a donation to help cover the cost of those who go though the registry. Checks can be made out to South Lakes High School. Then one check will be written to the National Bone Marrow Program. Your check can be sent to Lindsay Trout ,South Lakes High School -11400 South Lakes Drive Reston, VA 20191. If you have any questions about bone marrow, please visit their site at www.marrow.org. The contact person for this drive is South Lakes faculty member Lindsay Trout. For further information, you may contact her at Ltroublue@aol.com.
