Relearning Heschel, Rebirthing King, Re-Inaugurating America: Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Day

Congregation Sha'are Shalom will hold a discussion, "Relearning Heschel, Rebirthing King, Re- Inaugurating America: Celebrating Dr Martin Luther King Day" on Friday, January 16, 2009, at the synagogue, 19357 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg, Virginia, from 6.30 to 7.15 pm. Soon Barack Obama will become the 44th president of the United States of America and the 111th Congress will begin. There is a remarkable opportunity to reflect on our nation's history and its future. The opportunity is strengthened because the day before Inauguration Day (Tuesday, January 20, 2009) is Martin Luther King's birthday and because January 14 is the yahrzeit (death-anniversary) of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, Dr King's close friend and ally. Please join us at 6.30 pm as we honor Dr King’s legacy through a discussion of his core teachings and his affinities with Rabbi Heschel. The erev Shabbat service will follow at 7.30 pm. Child care will be provided. The public is welcome. There is no charge.

Congregation Sha'are Shalom, the Conservative synagogue in Loudoun County, Virginia, is an egalitarian community, authentically Jewish and fully engaged in the world. Affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Sha'are Shalom welcomes new members and serves families and individuals through religious services, Jewish education for all ages, programs for interfaith families, and social events. Founded in 1996, CSS is led by Rabbi Michael Ragozin and now counts more than 130 households in its membership. The congregation holds Kabbalat Shabbat services welcoming the sabbath every Friday evening at 7.30 PM and Shabbat morning services every Saturday at 9.30 AM.

Congregation Sha'are Shalom is located at 19357 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg, Virginia. For more information, call Congregation Sha'are Shalom at 703.737.6500 or write to CSS at P. O. Box 4518, Leesburg, VA 20177-8577. Visit Congregation Sha'are Shalom on the Internet at www.sha-areshalom.org
